J.P. Yates is the world's leading futurist; his job is to travel the world at the request of governments and corporations, get on stage, and predict the next big thing in everything from politics to economics to pop culture. He's sharp and sarcastic, but a little jaded from years of shoveling bullshit for a paycheck. When a series of events lead him to loose his faith in his life and profession, Yates says so in a spectacular career-ending speech. In its wake Yates is targeted by two suits representing "American Corporate Interests," who make him an offer he can't refuse... $10K a week forever to travel the world, soak up how people feel about America and report back weekly... that's it. Yates takes the gig; but while globetrotting, he notices terrible things following his path: a soccer riot, a suicide bombing, people following him... When Yates finally figures out for whom he's working Yates races to outsmart his employers and regain his freedom, finding his faith in place in the world in the process.

The project is an adaptation of James P. Othmer's satirical novel, The Futurist, to be released by Doubleday in June 2006.
